About the role
We're looking for an experienced manufacturing purchasing professional who knows how to keep production moving. In this role, you'll manage supplier relationships, negotiate pricing, coordinate material purchases, and work closely with production and engineering teams to ensure critical components arrive on time. This position offers the opportunity to influence purchasing strategy, strengthen supplier partnerships, and play an important role in supporting a busy manufacturing operation producing engineered industrial equipment.
Responsibilities
- Purchase raw materials, fabricated components, and production supplies that support manufacturing operations
- Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships while evaluating quality, delivery performance, and overall vendor reliability
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, contracts, and commercial terms to maximize value and reduce overall purchasing costs
- Identify and qualify new suppliers as business needs evolve
- Partner with Production, Planning, Engineering, Logistics, and Finance to ensure materials are available when needed
- Monitor inventory levels to help prevent shortages while minimizing excess inventory
- Resolve supplier and purchasing issues that could impact manufacturing schedules
- Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies and established sourcing practices
- Analyze purchasing activity, supplier performance, and cost trends to support informed business decisions
- Recommend process improvements that strengthen procurement efficiency and overall supply chain performance
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and support ongoing operational improvements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred
- 3+ years of purchasing or procurement experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Experience negotiating with suppliers and managing vendor relationships
- Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Office
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Experience in a heavy fabrication manufacturing environment and/or heat exchanger industry is strongly preferred
- Familiarity with imported materials, inventory management, and cost control is a plus
