About the role

The Senior Business Development Manager drives sales growth of an assigned region in close coordination with WuXi Biology leadership, with an additional focus on penetrating certain assigned customers that present significant growth opportunities. The incumbent closes and implements growth opportunities, achieves assigned sales and profit goals, and serves as the primary point of contact for WuXi Biology and customers to ensure stable, proactive relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Identify key decision makers relative to WuXi Biology business for potential contact.
  • Daily prospecting to generate new leads.
  • Identify issues that could jeopardize partnerships and collaborate with management to develop solutions.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with internal business partners at WuXi.
  • Create new opportunities and develop new relationships to expand and grow the customer base.
  • Proactively identify areas of growth opportunity and ensure stable customer relationships.
  • Facilitate and support teamwork to achieve common goals across WuXi Biology, including mentoring on effective sales techniques and strategies.
  • Qualify leads and present opportunities to management and the WuXi Biology technical team.
  • Facilitate business meetings with proper agendas, attendees, and follow-up, including meeting summaries and action items.
  • Project a professional image of WuXi Biology as a solutions provider with clearly articulated messages.
  • Support proposal negotiation to close contracts as defined by supervision.
  • Represent WuXi Biology at trade shows and conferences.
  • Manage all aspects of the customer relationship.
  • Proactively track and record business opportunities and progress toward KPIs.
  • Develop a professional network through local and other networking and partnering meetings.
  • Support the team in demonstrating WuXi AppTec’s core values and complying with company policies.
  • Establish professional rapport with internal functional leaders and market-leading customers to provide feedback on innovative internal processes and market demands.
  • Engage with customers regularly to inform the organization of strategic and tactical performance.
  • Facilitate customer travel to China.
  • Travel requirements: If local, 40% out-of-office day visits (not overnight) to clients plus up to 20% overnight travel for conferences. If remote, 25% overnight travel to visit clients and attend conferences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Achieve sales quotas and assigned KPIs annually.
  • Achieve customer onboarding goals.
  • Meet assigned expectations for profitability.
  • Achieve new account acquisition targets.
  • Complete required training and development objectives within the assigned time frame.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in life sciences (preferably in biology or chemistry).
  • 3+ years of industrial experience, with at least one year of business development experience preferred.
  • Experience in CRO is a plus.
  • Frequent travel (car, train, plane) required; candidates must have a valid driver’s license and passport.

Skills

  • Broad understanding of discovery biology leading to candidate selection and preclinical development.
  • Ability to close deals by effectively utilizing internal resources.
  • Demonstrated abilities in listening, negotiation, teamwork, and persuasiveness.
  • Coordination with other business development or scientific counterparts to provide appropriate solutions to clients.
  • Self-starter with a highly flexible, self-motivated, and organized approach.
  • Detail-oriented and team player.
  • Proven experience in creating or capitalizing on opportunities leading to successful outcomes, ideally in business development.
  • Independently identifies potential prospects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective listening, dialogue, and interactions.
  • Timely communication internally and externally.
