Senior Business Development Manager
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Business Development Manager focused on the Food & Beverage and Consumer Goods sectors to enable account managers to hit sales targets by creating, sustaining, and cultivating business relationships and partnerships. This role requires frequent client interaction and internal communication with our sales team to develop solutions that meet customer needs, driving success as measured by our Net Promoter Score process.
The Senior Business Development Manager will lead prospecting efforts for custom Automation Solutions, primarily in the Food & Beverage (F&B) and Consumer Products (CPG) sectors (e.g., Hershey’s, Cargill, P&G, Tyson Foods, Kraft Heinz). While F&B and CPG will be the heaviest focus, this position also involves meaningful engagement across industries such as Aerospace, Agriculture, Automotive, Electric Vehicle, Energy, Furniture and Appliances, Logistics, Medical, Military, Recreational Vehicle, Transportation, and Oil and Gas.
This position reports to the SVP Business Development and President Emeritus.
Responsibilities
- Generate a company target in volume (dollar value) of new, qualified leads for Account Managers.
- Identify and prospect new business opportunities through market research, trade shows, networking, referrals, and account managers, documenting all activity in the CRM.
- Build and maintain a pipeline of qualified leads to ensure consistent sales activity, with regular forecasts of expected booking potential from future opportunities.
- Establish and nurture long-term relationships with key decision-makers (C-level executives, managers, etc.) to win and retain repeat business.
- Understand clients' needs and challenges to tailor Convergix solutions and develop a Win Strategy framework for each pursuit.
- Frame business development strategies that achieve revenue targets and growth goals.
- Deliver sales presentations and proposals, resolving objections to move prospects through the sales funnel.
- Track and analyze sales data in the CRM to optimize strategies, improve conversion rates, and report on pipeline status and performance to senior management.
- Partner with marketing and sales directors to align business development efforts with company offerings across business units, and relay client feedback to refine services.
- Monitor industry trends and competitor activity to stay ahead of market changes and opportunities.
- Ensure a smooth handoff from business development to account management to protect client satisfaction and retention.
- Represent Convergix at industry events, trade shows, and conferences as a spokesperson and advocate—promoting the company's vision, culture, and values, generating leads, and supporting the go-to-market plan.
Requirements
- College degree (Business or Engineering), or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years’ experience in Automation equipment, Controls, Mechanical designs, and Robotics (preferably in sales and/or engineering).
- Proven successful history of selling solutions & equipment, meeting or exceeding KPIs.
- Technical aptitude to adequately qualify opportunities and communicate within internal engineering teams.
- Deep understanding of the automation market.
- Understanding and experience using AI tools for prospecting.
