Senior Business Development Manager
Full-time, home-based with national travel to clients. Reports to the Head of Asset Acquisition.
Job Purpose
At mua Group, we're both an independent distribution network operator (IDNO) for electricity and an independent gas transporter (IGT) for gas. We don't own the gas or electricity, but we collect a fee from the energy supplier for safely and reliably delivering their gas and electricity to homes and businesses through our pipes and cables. We're also a regulated water and wastewater company, adopting water and wastewater networks across Britain.
We're looking for a Senior Business Development Manager to lead strategic-scale growth initiatives across complex energy and infrastructure assets. This role is focused on driving IDNO and NAV asset adoption of technically demanding projects, including battery energy storage systems (BESS), data centres and large industrial developments. You'll be a trusted adviser to our team, shaping early-stage asset acquisition strategy and converting complex high-value opportunities into long-term investments.
Responsibilities
Strategic business development
- Lead the identification, origination and development of strategic-scale projects aligned with our IDNO and NAV asset growth strategy
- Drive early engagement with developers, investors, EPCs and end users to position mua as the preferred long-term network and asset partner
- Build and manage a robust pipeline of high-value opportunities across BESS, data centres and large industrial sites
IDNO and NAV asset adoption
- Lead commercial strategy for IDNO network adoption
- Develop and promote NAV asset propositions, ensuring projects are optimised for long-term regulated returns
- Work closely with internal engineering, commercial and regulatory teams to structure compliant, bankable solutions
Technical and commercial leadership
- Demonstrate strong technical knowledge of electrical infrastructure, including EHV/HV/LV networks, grid connections and private wire arrangements
- Translate complex technical solutions into clear commercial value propositions for non-technical stakeholders
- Support financial modelling, asset valuation, and commercial negotiations on large-scale, multi-year projects
Stakeholder and market engagement
- Act as a senior representative of mua Group within the market, building long-term strategic relationships with key partners and clients
- Influence decision-makers across development, energy, infrastructure and investment communities
- Monitor market trends, regulatory developments and emerging technologies to inform strategy and opportunity development
Internal collaboration
- Work collaboratively with engineering, delivery, legal and finance teams to ensure seamless transition from opportunity to execution
- Mentor junior business development colleagues where appropriate, contributing to capability growth within the team

- High level of technical competence with the ability to confidently engage with engineers and technical stakeholder
