Senior Buildings Science Architect/Engineer
About the role
The Building Specialty Services group within Stantec's Buildings team is seeking a Senior Leader to join and guide our team. This role involves technical and business leadership across various aspects of building envelope design, commissioning, and construction services.
Responsibilities
- Drive the service line forward from a business perspective within the Building Specialty Services Business Unit in the US Northeast
- Define scope of complex services and establish design criteria for projects
- Review design documents, shop drawings, and trade submittals for conformance with good building practice
- Manage preparation of contract drawings and specifications with a project team
- Conduct field reviews of both new construction and rehabilitation projects to ensure adherence to approved mock-ups and design documents
- Prepare and review site visit reports and generate action lists of outstanding deficiencies, tracking their resolution
- Undertake field testing of building envelope assemblies to confirm compliance with specified performance standards (primarily water infiltration and air leakage)
- Investigate, advise, and solve unusual project problems by devising new approaches or applying existing criteria in innovative ways
- Interface with architects, general contractors, and sub-trades to provide expert advice on design processes or construction methods
- Conduct forensic analysis of building envelope failures
- Provide technical presentations and thought leadership within the building science community, internally at Stantec, and externally
- Review and write proposals for new work
- Lead business development opportunities and help drive new business for the company with both internal and external clients
- Mentor and train entry-level staff in both technical and non-technical skills
Requirements
- Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of Bluebeam, CAD, and/or Revit
- Project management skills for concurrent multiple projects with budgets above $200,000
- Practical knowledge of energy code, rain screen principles, air barriers, and thermal performance
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with a strong customer service commitment
- Valid driver’s license and a clean Motor Vehicle Record
- Registered Professional Education and Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in assessing, detailing, testing, and constructing building envelope systems
- Strong understanding of advanced flashing, waterproofing, roofing, cladding, rain screens, air barriers, and other related systems
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Science, with a background in Building Science

Pay
Pay ranges from $128,600.00 - $192,900.00 annually for locations in MN, OH, VT, & Various CA, NY Areas, and from $151,700.00 - $227,600.00 annually for locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA areas, and from $162,000.00 - $243,100.00 annually for locations in NYC & CA (Bay Area) & NJ (RP).
Schedule
This is a full-time position with no travel required.
