About the role

The Senior Building Maintenance Supervisor (SBMS) oversees the maintenance of facilities and supervises a team of maintenance workers. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and directing a team of maintenance workers.
  • Providing training and development opportunities for staff.
  • Scheduling and assigning work orders.
  • Maintaining and prioritizing maintenance needs.
  • Evaluating staff performance and ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Performing routine repairs and maintenance.
  • Handling emergency repairs and responding to Campus Dispatch.
  • Coordinating with other departments and campus entities.
  • Maintaining facility-wide preventative maintenance and emergency preparedness plans.
  • Managing the zone's shops and stores, ensuring supplies are available and tools are maintained.
  • Overseeing purchasing, inventory, and shop management.

Responsibilities

The SBMS is responsible for:

  • Ensuring all work is completed to CHES Facilities' standards.
  • Developing the infrastructure required to deliver maintenance and repair service.
  • Providing personnel development opportunities and monitoring staff performance.
  • Ensuring maintenance and repair work is completed efficiently and up to standard.
  • Ensuring maintenance and repair work is completed promptly and according to established processes.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must have:

  • Demonstrated experience to safely perform routine electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, heating and ventilation, lock and door hardware, furniture, appliance, and sheet rock repairs.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting experience in one or more craft areas.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of building systems necessary to coordinate routine repair and maintenance projects.
  • Leadership skills sufficient to develop a cohesive, motivated, and effective facilities team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to maintain good working relationships with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to resolve issues related to students, staff, and faculty, and exercise diplomacy in stressful situations.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects under pressure.
  • Experience and proficiency in the use of computer spreadsheets, databases, and word processing application software.
  • Knowledge in researching and purchasing maintenance and construction materials and services.
  • Political acumen and discretion necessary to work effectively with various entities and individuals in a complex organizational environment.
