Senior Budget Analyst

About the Role

The Senior Budget Analyst performs budget development and negotiation for complex clinical trials with sponsors (pharmaceutical companies and contract research organizations), as well as coverage analyses, for trials managed through The University of Kansas Cancer Center (KUCC) Clinical Trials Office. This role includes training and mentoring other team members. KUCC is the region's only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center, offering access to cutting-edge therapies and clinical trials.

Responsibilities

• Consult with principal investigators, project directors, regulatory leads, and the clinical trial budget manager on budget development for new studies and updates due to protocol amendments or scope changes.
• Develop and update coverage analyses and clinical trial budgets for complex trials; ensure stakeholder review and agreement of draft budgets.
• Create in-kind budgets for underfunded trials to assist leadership in assessing trial feasibility.
• Research new pharmaceutical companies to evaluate financial risk.
• Review and update financial language in Informed Consents related to patient costs on clinical studies, including those assigned to contractors.
• Assist the Senior Finance Director and Clinical Trial Budget Manager with policy, procedure, and pricing development as needed.
• Support contractor Budget Analysts in gathering information from external departments.
• Consult with KUMC stakeholders (KUMCRI, KU Hospital, KU Cancer Center) to determine appropriate costing and billing of services.
• Review and revise contract payment terms to align with KUCC standard language.
• Conduct final reviews of budgets and payment terms in contracts to ensure all agreed-upon terms are included.
• Input budget information into the Clinical Trial Management System (CRIS/Velos).
• Train and mentor Budget Analysts and Fiscal Analysts within the Finance department.

Requirements

• 8 years of relevant experience (education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis).
• Knowledge and experience with clinical trial budgets and coverage analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

• 4 years of clinical research budget development and negotiation experience.
• Experience applying Medicare coverage guidelines and FDA regulations relevant to drugs, devices, and biologics.
• Professional research certification (e.g., CCRP, ACRP, or other clinical research certification).

Pay

The pay range for this position is $70,200.00 – $105,300.00, with a midpoint of $87,700.00. Compensation is determined using market data, education, experience, qualifications, and funding. Starting pay will be within the minimum to midpoint range based on these factors.
