Senior Back-End Software Engineer (up to $200k)
About the role
This company is building an AI operating system for blue-collar parts and equipment businesses, an industry ripe for disruption with vast amounts of fragmented, unstructured data. Backed by leading investors and founded by AI researchers, they're tackling a hard technical problem with significant market potential. They're bringing LLM-powered insights to non-technical teams in automotive, construction, and agriculture.
This is effectively the first US tech hire, working directly with the founders to build the system end-to-end. You'll own foundational architecture and set engineering standards from day one. This isn't a 9-to-5, nor a small, siloed piece of a larger system; it's intense, high-ownership work with the reward of building a fast-growing company's core.
Responsibilities
- Design and own data pipelines from ingestion through cleaning and transformation.
- Build orchestration workflows (Airflow-style DAGs) to ensure reliable data movement.
- Integrate messy customer systems—on-prem databases, CSV dumps, SFTP, legacy ERPs—into structured, queryable data.
- Develop the APIs and backend services that serve insights on top of the processed data.
- Set standards for data quality, schema evolution, observability, CI/CD, testing, and deploy automation.
Qualifications
- 5-6+ years building and shipping backend services. Exceptional mid-level engineers with 2-3 years of relevant experience will also be considered.
- Strong Python across APIs and services, comfortable designing workflows and operating orchestration tools.
- Experience owning end-to-end data pipelines, with reliable and observable data movement.
- A driven builder mentality; you thrive on startup intensity rather than a 9-to-5.
- Backend is your primary strength; frontend work is available but not your focus.
