Senior Back-End Software Engineer (up to $200k)

This role is with one of Dex's trusted partner companies. We work closely with their teams to understand their culture, goals, and what they're looking for, so we can match you with the right opportunity and provide context about the role before you commit to a process.

About the role

Most AI companies chase consumer apps or enterprise SaaS. This one is different: an AI operating system for the blue-collar parts and equipment industries. Think automotive spare-parts distributors, OEMs, salvage yards — businesses sitting on vast, fragmented, unstructured data, ripe for LLM-driven transformation. They're backed by leading investors and growing rapidly, solving a genuinely hard problem at the intersection of AI and legacy systems.

This is effectively the first US tech hire, working directly with the founders to build the core system end-to-end. You'll own the entire backend, from data ingestion and orchestration to API development, setting architectural standards and defining engineering practices from day one. This isn't a role for incremental feature work or a narrow scope; it's for a senior builder ready to lay the technical foundations of a fast-growing company, with all the intensity and ownership that implies.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and own end-to-end data pipelines: ingestion, cleaning, transformation, ensuring reliable data movement.
  • Develop robust orchestration workflows (Airflow-style DAGs) to manage complex data flows across systems.
  • Integrate diverse, messy customer data sources — on-prem databases, CSVs, SFTP, legacy ERPs — into structured, queryable formats.
  • Build the APIs and backend services that power LLM-driven insights and decision-making for non-technical users.
  • Define and implement standards for data quality, schema evolution, observability, CI/CD, and deployment automation.

Requirements

  • 5+ years building and shipping backend services, ideally in an early-stage or fast-paced environment.
  • Deep expertise in Python for APIs and services, with proven experience designing workflows, scheduling jobs, and operating orchestration tools.
  • Demonstrated ownership of end-to-end data pipelines, ensuring reliable and observable data movement.
  • A driven builder who thrives on startup intensity, with a strong bias for shipping and foundational impact.
  • Backend is your primary strength; you're not looking for a primarily frontend role.
