Senior Associate - Portfolio Group
About the role
The successful candidate will manage Monroe’s higher risk rated investments through enhanced financial/operational monitoring and frequent interaction with company management, financial sponsors, and third-party consultants/financial advisors.
Responsibilities
- Lead in the management of a select portfolio of the firm’s higher risk rated investments through enhanced financial/operational monitoring and frequent interaction with company management, financial sponsors, and third-party consultants/financial advisors.
- Design, develop and implement strategies for maximizing portfolio investment recoveries.
- Prepare analysis and modeling of potential restructuring alternatives.
- Conduct negotiation with various constituencies including financial sponsors, company management, other bank group members, and other lenders in the capital structure.
- Cook up and manage legal counsel and other external professionals, including consultants and financial advisors.
- Prepare and present restructure/amendment/waiver memorandums.
- Provide regular financial and strategic updates (both written and verbal) on portfolio accounts.
- Participate in review and negotiation of legal terms and documentation on individual transactions/amendments/waivers.
- Review and analyze Borrower financial reporting, monitor key performance indicators, and track operational and financial trends.
- Maintain knowledge of business and market trends that may affect portfolio performance.
Requirements
- Experience with principal investing (e.g., private credit, private equity, etc.), special situations investment banking (debt placements, refinancing or distressed M&A), restructuring/turnaround/lender advisory or interim management, and leveraged finance and portfolio management.
- Bachelor’s degree from a top-tier undergraduate university with a strong academic record.
- Strong research, accounting and financial analysis skills, with the ability to build financial models, analyze financial statements, and interpret cash flow dynamics.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office products (especially Excel).
- Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced setting with proficiency at multi-task on multiple projects/deals, focus on detail and accuracy and follow-through.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) on multiple projects.
- Skill to work well within a small team and meet tight deadlines, using own initiative without close supervision.
Physical Requirements
- Stationary Work: Able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while performing computer work, phone communication, and administrative tasks.
- Movement: Occasionally moves about the office to access files, supplies, meeting rooms, or other work areas.
- Reaching/Positioning: Occasionally positions self to access shelves, organize materials, or retrieve office supplies.
- Computer and Equipment Use: Regularly operates a computer and other standard office productivity equipment (e.g., phone, printer, copier).
- Communication: Able to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and through electronic methods as required to perform essential job duties.
