Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Origination, Underwriting and Capital Markets teams to create appropriate risk measurements and portfolio guidelines to achieve client investment goals.
  • Assist primary Portfolio Manager in the responsibility for investment selection and portfolio construction for assigned clients, collaborating with the Origination, Underwriting and Capital Markets teams to execute investment strategies for assigned clients.
  • Work closely with the Capital Markets team to execute any leverage strategies required by our clients.
  • Work with the Asset Management team to effectuate solutions to problem loans that maximize account outcomes. Work within account guidelines to achieve these solutions.
  • Assist primary Portfolio Manager to Integrate house views, relative value and risk return models into portfolio construction and sector allocation.
  • Assist primary Portfolio Manager in the identification, assessment and mitigation of key sources of portfolio risk, including market, credit, operational and business risks to ensure that the overall risk profile of assigned clients is managed to optimize returns and the use of capital, consistent with the risk appetite and risk management guiding principles of the relevant investment mandate.
  • Act as the primary contact with investment accounting teams and outside banking contacts, support/direct cash management of the account as well as support/direct quarterly financial reporting, analysis and controls.
  • Primary contact for the account in the closing of investment transactions.
  • Support the investment and legal teams in evaluating structuring options to optimize capital deployment and achievement of client goals, including tax efficiency, exposure targets and risk-return objectives.
  • Collaborate with investment teams in the execution of co-investment opportunities by providing operational, reporting, and pricing recommendations.
  • Along with lead portfolio Manager, communicate clearly and frequently with senior client representatives and advise clients on portfolio construction, investment options, and market dynamics, with support from investment and Research teams. Conduct periodic account portfolio reviews for clients. Lead responsibility for preparing accurate quarterly reporting.
  • Lead responsibility in preparing and providing appropriate portfolio analysis and reporting to clients and to Barings senior management teams on a regular basis.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background in finance, economics, or a related field, along with 5+ years of relevant experience in real estate debt or asset management. A CPA or CFA designation is preferred. Strong analytical skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously are essential. Experience working with real estate debt strategies and understanding of real estate markets is highly desirable.
