Senior Associate, Fixed Assets / Cost Segregation (AMCS)

Responsibilities

  • Cook up and perform cost segregation and fixed asset analyses for construction projects, real estate acquisitions, and renewable energy and sustainability initiatives
  • Peel apart construction cost data, general ledger detail, architectural/engineering drawings, and capitalization support to figure out asset classification and spot costs eligible for tax treatment
  • Go on site visits and fieldwork to inspect building components (like electrical, mechanical, plumbing systems) and verify cost assumptions
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and internal teams to gather technical documentation and make sure everything is complete and accurate
  • Put together detailed engineering-based reports, depreciation analyses, reconciliations, and supporting documents for client deliverables, including participating in tax fixed asset outsourcing engagements (Federal, State, E&P)
  • Spot opportunities related to sales tax exemptions (like utility reviews) and pitch in to improve processes and drive data-driven workflow improvements, including using automation tools and standardized methodologies
  • Act like a good sport, be professional, and take personal responsibility to keep KPMG's workplace respectful and courteous

Qualifications

  • A minimum of two years of recent experience in an engineering firm, corporation, or public accounting firm; a background in cost segregation, fixed asset consulting, construction, engineering, or a related technical field is preferred
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in engineering, architecture, construction management, or a closely related discipline is required
  • A great understanding of construction processes and building systems, and how project costs translate into asset classifications
  • Knowledge of federal income tax depreciation principles and accounting for capital expenditures, preferred
  • Experience reviewing technical drawings, construction documentation, and large project cost datasets
  • A strong proficiency in Excel (such as advanced formulas, pivot tables, lookups) and experience working with structured data from financial or operational systems; demonstrated experience or strong aptitude with data wrangling/automation tools (such as Power Query, Alteryx), business intelligence tools (such as Power BI, Tableau), or query/scripting languages (such as SQL, Python, R)
