Responsibilities
- Cook up and perform cost segregation and fixed asset analyses for construction projects, real estate acquisitions, and renewable energy and sustainability initiatives
- Inspect construction cost data, general ledger detail, architectural/engineering drawings, and capitalization support to figure out asset classification and spot costs eligible for tax treatment
- Go to sites and do fieldwork to check building parts (like electrical, mechanical, plumbing systems) and verify cost assumptions
- Collaborate with clients, contractors, and internal teams to gather tech docs and make sure analyses are complete and accurate
- Write detailed engineering-based reports, depreciation analyses, reconciliations, and supporting docs for client deliverables, including participating in tax fixed asset outsourcing engagements (Fed, State, E&P)
- Spot opportunities for sales tax exemptions (like utility reviews) and help improve processes and data-driven workflows, using automation tools and standardized methods
- Act with integrity, professionalism, and personal responsibility to keep KPMG's respectful and courteous work environment
Qualifications
- A minimum of two years of recent experience in an engineering firm, corporation, or public accounting firm; a background in cost segregation, fixed asset consulting, construction, engineering, or a related technical field is preferred
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in engineering, architecture, construction management, or a closely related discipline is required
- A great understanding of construction processes and building systems, and how project costs turn into asset classifications
- Knowledge of federal income tax depreciation principles and accounting for capital expenditures, preferred
- Experience reviewing technical drawings, construction documentation, and large project cost datasets
- A strong proficiency in Excel (such as advanced formulas, pivot tables, lookups) and experience working with structured data from financial or operational systems; demonstrated experience or strong aptitude with data wrangling/automation tools (such as Power Query, Alteryx), business intelligence tools (such as Power BI, Tableau), or query/scripting languages (such as SQL, Python, R)
