About the role

The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix seeks a motivated and visionary leader to serve as the senior associate dean for the Office of Undergraduate Medical Education (UME).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the educational and student service programs within the College of Medicine – Phoenix.
  • Lead the Continuous Quality Improvement team to ensure LCME compliance and accreditation.
  • Represent the College of Medicine – Phoenix at the AAMC national meetings, serve on national committees and engage in collaborative research.
  • Ensure successful implementation and outcomes of our innovative undergraduate medical curriculum, consistent with the educational goals of the College.
  • Oversee further development and distinction in the Student Research program with expansion of the MD/PhD program.
  • Strengthen partnerships with affiliate institutions and community partners to benefit the educational mission.
  • Strengthen existing relationships with universities, foundations and other organizations to ensure the success of the College of Medicine – Phoenix.
  • Establish priorities for clinical and academic program development and facilitate the recruitment of key academic leaders necessary to implement educational priorities.
  • Recruit and retain an institutional team who will successfully execute the educational goals of the strategic plan.
  • Champion undergraduate student pathway programs with the Office of Health Care Advancement.
  • Provide effective unit oversight of the financial and operational performance of the UME Office.
  • Actively promote career development of UME faculty and leaders at the College.
  • Identify opportunities for enhanced performance in areas of research, education and faculty development.

Requirements

  • Hold an MD or an equivalent degree from an LCME accredited institution.
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of progressively complex administrative experience in an academic medicine setting.
  • Demonstrate national recognition as an academic leader as evidenced by involvement in national clinical, academic and/or educational societies.
  • Have a record of educational program development, monitoring and/or leadership.
  • Have experience serving on an AAMC committee.
  • Have a track record of peer-reviewed publications in areas of educational scholarship (e.g., assessment, evaluation, curriculum, academic culture, admissions, etc.).
  • Be board certified in specialty and be licensed to practice medicine in Arizona at the time of hire.

  • Knowledge of pedagogic principles and evidence-based practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of LCME requirements.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, professionalism and communication skills.
  • Mentoring skills (students, residents and junior faculty).
  • Knowledge of budgets and resource management.
  • Experience serving on national educational committees.

Skills
