Qualifications And Requirements
- Admission to practice law in the State of New Jersey.
- Eight or more years of experience in the practice of law, with experience in the representation of school districts before courts and administrative agencies preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in areas of public contract law, special education, and/or labor/employment litigation.
- Proficiency in applicable computer programs (Lexis, Westlaw, Word, Windows, Excel).
- Working knowledge of federal and state laws applicable to school districts in New Jersey.
Basic Functions And Responsibilities
- Represents the Newark Board of Education in litigation and legal matters by independently handling proceedings before courts and agencies from inception to conclusion.
- Locates and interviews fact witnesses.
- Maintains files and exhibits and prepares all necessary legal documents required in connection with the same.
- Renders appropriate day-to-day oral and written legal advice to District administrators and board members.
- Prepares formal and informal memoranda, opinions, pleadings, trial and appellate briefs, revisions to administrative rules, legal and general correspondence for the signature of the General Counsel, Superintendent, or other administrators in the District.
- Represents the District at meetings, serves on committees, and engages in projects as directed by the Superintendent or General Counsel.

SALARY, EMPLOYMENT PERIOD AND UNION AFFILIATION
- Salary Range: Competitive and based on education and experience.
- Employment Period: Twelve (12) Month.
- Union Affiliation: Unaffiliated.
