About the Role
The Tennessee Department of Health is seeking a litigation attorney to serve as a Senior Associate Counsel in its Office of General Counsel. The duties involve complex litigation and caseload management, including complaint review, legal writing, medical record review, working with expert witnesses, negotiating discipline, holding depositions, conducting discovery, and litigating contested hearings.
Responsibilities
- Represent the Department in administrative law cases before various medical boards.
- Prepare cases for litigation, including medical record review, depositions, discovery, and contested hearings.
- Provide legal advice and drafting services to healthcare licensure boards as necessary.
- Analyze proposed legislation affecting public health.
- Manage a caseload at different phases of litigation with minimal supervision.
Intellectual curiosity, a litigation background, strong writing skills, and an interest in the healthcare industry are preferred. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic, team-focused environment while being self-motivated in daily duties.
Requirements
- Licensed to practice law in Tennessee.
- Graduated from an accredited law school with a J.D. or equivalent.
- At least seven (7) years of relevant legal experience.
- Able to perform legal duties and litigate cases with minimal supervision.
