Essential Functions

The ability to analyze complicated legal and factual issues and to present complicated issues clearly in written and oral form. This position blends strategic counseling, regulatory and legislative analysis, and litigation into a multifaceted role. The applicant should feel comfortable speaking before courts, writing letters and briefs, and advocating Wyoming's interests to federal and state officials and the general public.

Wyoming constantly seeks to balance ranching, farming, mining, and industry to preserve some of the most beautiful wilderness and public lands found on earth. This position plays an important role in Wyoming's efforts to manage and protect all of those resources.

Qualifications

  • PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: To the extent that you are already familiar with environmental law and civil litigation, administrative law, or some of the unique challenges that arise when representing a government agency, we want you to apply. To the extent that you are not familiar with these areas of law, but you have an interest, we still want you to apply. We will work with you to ensure that you have the knowledge that you need to succeed.

Knowledge

Those with experience and/or interest in natural resources and environmental law are encouraged to apply.

Knowledge of federal and state natural resource, environmental, and energy laws.

Education

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Juris Doctorate

Necessary Special Requirements

  • Physical Working Conditions: This position takes place in an average work environment.

Salary is commensurate with relevant legal experience

Successful applicants are required to pass a criminal background investigation

This position is At-will and is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Attorney General (W.S. 9-1-608).
