Reports to the school principal with additional direction from the Senior Army Instructor (SAI) to facilitate, manage, and administer the JROTC Program. Sets a professional example in behavior and appearance for cadets, colleagues, and the community.
Responsibilities
- Instruct and support JROTC cadets in military and academic subjects, employing new and alternative instructional techniques.
- Conduct JROTC curriculum training in accordance with applicable law, Army, and Cadet Command regulations.
- Prepare and adhere to a weekly training schedule, including daily class topics, military events, team practices, meetings, and uniform requirements.
- Manage the merit/demerit system for assigned classes.
- Perform administrative tasks, including maintenance of electronic student records, enrollment reports, and other required documentation.
- Act as military property specialist, ensuring property accountability and supply management.
- Handle logistics, including preparing requisitions for cadet, classroom, and instructional needs.
- Market the JROTC program within the school and community to recruit and retain students.
- Assist in developing the community relations plan and expanding the school’s outreach using military expertise.
- Counsel and mentor cadets on military and academic performance, assisting with JROTC scholarships and service academy applications.
- Participate in staff meetings, school committees, and student activities.
- Interpret and implement school, program, and military regulatory guidance.
- Conduct risk assessments and enforce Army and school safety guidelines for all activities.
- Attend instructor conferences and professional development opportunities offered by the school district, 2nd Brigade, and US Army Cadet Command (USACC).
- Meet continuing education requirements of the state, school district, and military branch.
- Plan and coordinate cadet attendance for the annual JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge, including prescribed training and activities.
- Facilitate and participate in JROTC marching and related activities.
- Organize, coordinate, and direct JROTC activities such as adventure training, marksmanship, archery, robotics labs, drill and academic competitions, service learning projects, awards ceremonies, and military balls.
- Maintain personal height and weight standards and uniforms at own expense.
- Maintain appearance in accordance with Military Standards for active-duty soldiers, per USACC Policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the SAI, USACC, 2nd Brigade, school, or school district.
Requirements
- NJ Teacher’s Certificate in Military Science.
- Full JROTC Certification, including completed CNACI.
- Military retiree status.
Skills
- Excellent instructional ability, including motivating and positively influencing students.
- Equitable judgment, behavior, and a supportive outlook toward cadets and programs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Classroom applications.
- Ability to lift and move boxes of curricular material and equipment.
- Ability to work extended hours, including weekends and after-school sessions until 5:00 PM, averaging 3 days per week.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting with multiple contributors.
- Strong multitasking skills.
- Knowledge of general office machines and telephone systems.
- Expertise in Primary Marksmanship Instruction.
- Excellent knowledge of Military Drill and Ceremonies.
- Strong understanding of Military Leadership principles.
- Knowledge of property accountability and supply management.
- Exhibit and maintain good moral character.
