About the role
Float Studio is a small interior architecture and design studio based in NYC. We work across workplace and commercial interiors, with a hospitality driven approach and a big focus on the details that make a space feel intentional. Our team is small, friendly, and tight. We care about doing great work without burning people out. We are looking for someone who is calm, organized, and genuinely enjoys leading a small team.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage junior team members across all phases of the project, providing direction, mentorship, quality control, and oversight of day-to-day deliverables and deadlines.
- Own and continuously manage project team workflows, including task delegation, coordination across disciplines, resource planning, and ensuring efficient project execution aligned with schedule and budget goals.
- Lead and contribute to projects from early design through construction.
- Conduct site visits, comprehensive space surveys, and as-built drawings.
- Produce clear, coordinated drawing sets, 3D models, renderings, and specifications including MEP coordination.
- Research and apply building codes and construction standards.
- Oversee construction administration including review of submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, punch lists and post occupancy reports.
- Contribute to conceptual design direction and strategic project planning.
- Advise on material selection, sustainability strategies, and code-compliant solutions.
- Manage project progress, deliverables, schedules, budgets, and internal coordination.
- Proactively optimize workflows, anticipate challenges, and communicate any project or workflow concerns to the internal team as needed.
- Prepare client presentations, communicate design intent, and relay feedback.
- Communicate and coordinate effectively with consultants, clients, contractors, and internal team to ensure smooth project execution.
- Mentor and guide other team members, providing design feedback and technical guidance.
- Support studio initiatives, including knowledge sharing, process improvement, and design innovation.
Qualifications
- Accredited degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch).
- 7-15+ years of post-graduate experience in architecture.
- Proven experience managing junior staff within a studio environment.
- Strong understanding of project scopes, budgets, construction pricing and feasibility, applicable local codes, and architectural design practices.
- Strong pulse on the creative industry with an eye for design, architecture, and art.
- Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, Google Suite, Miro preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent client management and relationship-building skills.
- Highly organized, personable, and focused on enhancing team workflows.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and adapting to changing project needs.
