Senior Android Developer
About the Role
Our client, a leading retail company, is seeking a Senior Android Developer to join their team. This is a contract opportunity with a focus on developing and supporting high-quality native Android applications for store operations and customer-facing experiences.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain native Android applications using Kotlin and Java, with an emphasis on reliability, scalability, performance, and maintainability
- Apply Android architecture best practices, including MVVM, Clean Architecture, dependency injection, repository patterns, and modular development
- Integrate mobile applications with REST APIs, cloud services, backend microservices, databases, and enterprise systems
- Profile and optimize applications for memory usage, startup time, responsiveness, battery consumption, networking, and overall performance
- Develop and maintain unit, integration, and automated UI tests while participating in code reviews and quality initiatives
- Support CI/CD, build automation, release management, crash analysis, production troubleshooting, and mentoring of other Android developers
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of hands-on native Android application development using Kotlin and/or Java
- Strong knowledge of the Android SDK, application lifecycle, framework components, permissions, storage, threading, background execution, networking, and device compatibility
- Experience with scalable Android architecture patterns, including MVVM, Clean Architecture, dependency injection, and modular code organization
- Experience integrating RESTful APIs and JSON, including authentication, error handling, offline storage, caching, and limited-connectivity scenarios
- Demonstrated experience profiling and tuning Android applications for performance, memory usage, responsiveness, battery consumption, and crash reduction
- Experience with device performance testing, benchmarking, profiling, load testing, and identifying device-specific performance constraints
- Experience with automated testing, Git, CI/CD pipelines, build automation, release management, crash reporting, and production support
Preferred Skills
- Experience with React Native or other cross-platform mobile development technologies
- Experience with AWS and/or MongoDB
- Experience working with enterprise mobility or Android device management
- Knowledge of Android security practices, including secure storage, authentication tokens, certificates, permissions, and sensitive data protection
- Experience working in retail, store technology, or enterprise mobile environments
- Experience evaluating Android platform capabilities, device SDKs, open-source libraries, and third-party solutions
- Experience using AI coding tools such as Windsurf or GitHub Copilot

Work Environment
Location: Irving, TX — 5 days onsite
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Range: $42.00 – $61.00 per hour (final compensation may vary based on factors including background, knowledge, skills, and location; we comply with local wage minimums)
