Senior Analyst, Risk Intelligence
About the role
The Senior Analyst, Risk Intelligence plays a crucial role in translating risk insight into practical decision support for Markel's decentralized leadership. This role involves producing the Quarterly Markel Intelligence Report, horizon scanning, integrating AI, conducting stress and scenario analysis, tracking key risk indicators, and supporting leadership input through workshops, interviews, surveys, and tabletop exercises.
Responsibilities
- Support the Quarterly Markel Intelligence Report, synthesizing industry trends, macro drivers, and internal data and perspectives into concise summaries for the Board.
- Help develop and operate an "always-on" scanning rhythm combining human expertise with agentic AI to separate noise from material threats and proactively communicate actionable insights.
- Assist with the design and execution of stress scenarios, parameterizing impacts that feed into both the ORSA (Markel Group and Markel Insurance) and CISSA (Bermuda) filings.
- Track key risk indicators to monitor exposure against defined risk appetites.
- Support the Director in designing and facilitating scenario workshops, interviews, surveys and tabletop exercises with underwriting and other leaders across the organization.
- Support the Director in partnering with Underwriting, Actuarial, Finance, and Capital Modeling teams to integrate risk intelligence into portfolio management, business planning, and decision-making.
- Deliver on quarterly milestones, managing competing priorities to ensure rapid incident response and "decision-ready" briefs for senior leaders.
Requirements
- Insurance Background: 3-5 years of experience in insurance risk, actuarial, or strategy, or other analytical roles.
- Exceptional Communication: Ability to produce high-caliber, concise written materials for executive forums and translate technical uncertainty into clear business narratives.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to quality control, ensuring that exposure data is accurate and that "lead time" from signal to approved action is minimized.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in analytics (e.g., Excel, SQL, Python), Powerpoint, and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Project Management & Pace: Proven ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder information gathering while meeting rigorous deadlines in a high-volume environment.
Qualifications
- Education & Certification: Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or risk-related discipline (Finance, Economics, Mathematics, etc.) is required. Professional designations such as CPCU, ARM, FRM, or Actuarial credentials, or progress toward them are highly preferred.

Pay
The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors, such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The national average salary for the Senior Analyst, Risk Intelligence position is $92,880-$127,710 with 15% bonus potential.
