Senior Analyst, Expense Accounting
About the role
The Regional Senior Analyst – Expense Accounting is a highly analytical role focused on overseeing expense accounting activities across multiple brands and channels within a publicly traded company. The position ensures accurate, consistent, and compliant expense reporting, supports period-end close activities, and acts as a key business partner to Accounting, FP&A, and Operations teams. Success requires strong technical accounting expertise, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to independently manage and improve processes while navigating complex business models (e.g., wholesale, DTC, e-commerce, and intercompany transactions).
Responsibilities
- Period-End Close & Financial Reporting
- Drive month-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis focused on Freight, Marketing, Selling, Product Development, DTC, and G&A expenses.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of expense-related components of the financial statements in alignment with corporate close timelines.
- Assist with the final review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting deliverables prior to submission.
- Partner with Corporate Accounting and External Reporting teams to support quarterly and annual SEC reporting requirements.
- Controls, Compliance & Audit
- Prepare and provide audit support documentation, including walkthroughs and testing support.
- Act as an expense accounting contact for internal and external audits and partner with teams to ensure completeness of supporting information.
- Identify control gaps or process inefficiencies and drive remediation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Project Support & Business Partnership
- Participate in system implementations, upgrades, and process improvement initiatives.
- Support testing efforts for accounting-related projects (e.g., system changes and new processes).
- Support process efficiency, data validation, and financial insights using data analytics tools or emerging technologies such as AI.
- Collaborate closely with Marketing, Sales, Product Development, FP&A, Legal, and IT teams on expense-impacting initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a multi-entity or publicly traded environment.
- Strong working knowledge of US GAAP.
- Experience materially contributing to month-end close, internal control compliance, and audit support.
- Proven ability to partner cross-functionally and communicate complex accounting topics to stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy.
- Ability to review and challenge financial data.
- Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed organization.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in consumer, retail, apparel, footwear, or multi-brand environments.
- Familiarity with data analytics tools or emerging technologies.
- SAP experience.
- BPC experience.
Pay
Hiring range: $64,000.00 USD - $80,000.00 USD annually. This position is eligible for additional compensation awards, including an annual incentive plan, sales incentive, or commission potential. Specific details will be provided during the recruiting and interview process.
