About the role

We are seeking a Senior Engineer with extensive experience in developing and operating production systems at scale in the cloud. The ideal candidate will be passionate about improving developer productivity and will be a strong leader who can effectively balance the needs of the business, users, and team growth.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers across the company to understand and support their development workflows.
  • Own technical projects from start to finish and be responsible for major technical decisions and tradeoffs.
  • Lead complex projects that span teams, with many partners and customers.
  • Effectively participate in planning, code reviews, and design discussions.
  • Create tooling that encourages and supports software engineering best practices.
  • Mentor and up-level other engineers on the team.
  • Conduct technical interviews with well-calibrated standards and play a crucial role in recruiting activities.
  • Be a positive contributor to our team culture.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience designing, building, and operating production systems at scale in the cloud.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience designing highly scalable, reliable, and maintainable services.
  • Experience writing in Go, Python, or other languages at production scale.
  • Understanding of Unix/Linux, SSH, and networking fundamentals.
  • Attention to detail, and a desire to improve processes and systems around you.
  • Ability to lead and influence others, both internal and external to the team.
  • Ability to research, document, communicate, and defend proposals, and provide and take critical feedback.
  • Ability to effectively make trade-offs and communicate the reasoning.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, focus on shipping, and work effectively under pressure.
  • Passion for mentoring and growing junior engineers.
  • Passion for self-driving technology and its potential impact on the world.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: 3+ years of experience designing, building and operating production systems at scale in the cloud, Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience, Experience designing highly scalable, reliable, and maintainable services, Experience writing in Go, Python, or other languages at production scale, Understanding of Unix/Linux, SSH, and networking fundamentals, Attention to detail, and a desire to improve processes and systems around you, Ability to lead and influence others, both internal and external to the team, Ability to research, document, communicate, and defend proposals, and provide and take critical feedback, Ability to effectively make trade-offs and communicate the reasoning, Ability to manage competing priorities, focus on shipping, and work effectively under pressure, Passion for mentoring and growing junior engineers, Passion for self-driving technology and its potential impact on the world.

Skills

  • Experience working with GCP.
  • Experience working with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience owning or contributing to Open-Source projects.

Pay

The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington. The salary range for this role is $170,600 to $261,300. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

Schedule

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}.

Location

This role may be eligible for relocation benefits.
