Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, supervises senior centers in a designated area of the County, or supervises a unit consisting of a group of County-wide programs and services for seniors.
  • Supervise professional staff, program and support staff, and volunteers who work directly in the senior centers and on special projects.
  • Oversee the delivery of in-person and virtual program opportunities for senior center members that meet the goals of the department and the guidelines for APD-12-04-Client and Community Services – Title IIID Evidenced-Based Requirements.
  • Provide recruitment, selection, development, training, and evaluation of staff.
  • Affords assistance in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of county-wide events and initiatives held in senior centers and in the community at large.
  • Researches local, state, and national trends for opportunities in social, educational, health, fitness, and wellness programming for older adults and looks for opportunities to expand these programs through the senior center network.
  • Plan and coordinate training programs for staff and volunteers.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and programs of professional organizations.
  • Participate in conflict resolution and mediation with staff, volunteers, members, and the public.
  • Oversees the fitness center/studio orientations and monitors training in conjunction with the Wellness Specialist.
  • Provide direct senior center coverage and operations management in the absence of staff.
  • Responsible for covering for the Division Chief and other regional managers as needed, which may include overseeing the operation of senior centers and supervision of staff.
  • Applies for and oversees grants in coordination with the Division Chief.
  • Ensures contracts and MOUs are obtained and updated for community partners.
  • Oversee income and expenditures of local, state, and federal funds, including staff salaries, programming, enhancement funds, supplies, equipment, and council treasuries.
  • Oversee the processing and provide audits of money collected from Nutrition, Fitness Centers, Evidence-based Programs, and Membership Enhancement donations.
  • Supervise a wide variety of reporting systems, including: monthly service delivery, volunteer, Eating Together, Council IRS (990s and 1090s), and enhancement fund. monitoring, program budgets, mileage, fire drills, incident/accident reports, and program standards.
  • Ensure compliance with council bylaws, departmental and county policies, contracts, standard operating procedures, and local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures for the Division and the Department, and be responsible for their interpretation to the senior center division.
  • Assist in the development, guidance, and operation of senior center councils.
  • Represent the Department at meetings with other agencies, organizations, and community leaders.
  • Provide coverage for the Division Chief and senior center staff when needed.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in gerontology, recreation, education, health, business administration, public administration, marketing, public relations, nursing specialty, accounting, or a social or behavioral science.
  • Plus at least four years' experience providing services to older adults, one year of which was in a supervisory capacity.
  • Additional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of 4 years, in place of the required education.
  • Education beyond a bachelor's degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of 2 years, for the required non-supervisory experience.
