The Mechanical and Reliability Department provides innovative solutions for electronic prototypes designed for advanced sensing, communication, and navigation systems, including ground, airborne, and shipboard systems. Engineers in this group are critical to all aspects of prototype or system development, from conceptual design through environmental testing, using rigorous analytical, physical, and computational methods.
Responsibilities
- Work with cross-functional technical teams (in-house and sponsor personnel) to develop and evaluate aerospace and mechanical systems.
- Support innovative design and employment of small and autonomous vehicles.
- Perform structural, aero/fluid dynamics, vibration, and thermal analyses at the component, individual item, and system level.
- Pursue internal research and development in technologies relevant to sponsor interests.
- Be responsible for deliverables or parts of deliverables to sponsors.
- Operate and test UAS solutions, and contribute to defense-oriented systems engineering projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering with 5 years of related experience.
- Experience conducting engineering analyses in structures, aero/fluid dynamics, vibration, and thermodynamics, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques.
- Familiarity with fixed-wing and rotary-wing configurations for aerial platforms, flight modes, and powerplants (prop, turbine, electric, etc.).
- Knowledge of control theory and its applications to vehicles.
- Ability to scope and perform aeromechanical engineering tasks autonomously.
- U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.
- This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site.
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S. and/or PhD in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with SolidWorks CAD tools.
- Experience with ANSYS (e.g., Workbench, APDL, Mechanical, LS-Dyna, CFX, Fluent, Icepak) or similar tools.
- Experience with design and integration of systems for airborne platforms.
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot certification and drone piloting experience.
- Demonstrated ability to lead independent research tasks and propose/conduct technical research projects.
Pay
Salary compensation range: $121,200 - $151,500 - $181,800 annually.
Schedule
This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site.
