Senior Accounting Manager
About the role
First Horizon is hiring an Accounting Policy Senior within Corporate Accounting to assist with the implementation of accounting guidance for business strategies and the evaluation of new accounting standards. This role supports the company’s business lines and operational functions in determining the appropriate accounting treatment for transactions. The position also evaluates SEC and regulatory reporting requirements, making updates to external filings as required.
Responsibilities
- Lead implementation of new accounting standards and evaluate effects on current businesses and accounting processes and procedures
- Primary responsibility for documentation of adoption of accounting standards
- Prepare disclosures for pending accounting standards
- Develop accounting guidance and documentation for new business strategies and proposed transactions
- Develop presentations for management regarding impacts of technical accounting issues and new accounting standards
- Review financial statements and transaction support to ensure accounting guidance was followed
- Review financial statements for compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements
- Monitor and report on emerging accounting issues (e.g., AI projects, cryptocurrency, tokenized deposits, transferable tax credits)
- Develop and maintain internal accounting policies
- Prepare periodic documentation for technical accounting topics (e.g., variable interest entities, SAB 108, goodwill impairment review, long-lived assets impairment review, fair value measurements)
Requirements
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements
- Strong technical accounting skills
- Ability to research accounting and reporting guidance (e.g., Accounting Standards Codification, Y9C and Call Report Instructions, accounting firm interpretations)
- Ability to research issues within Accounting Standards Codification and available interpretations
- Ability to translate technical accounting requirements into transactional-level guidance and support
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to understand business economics and related accounting processes
- Prior financial services, audit, and internal control experience is desirable
- Degree in Accounting; CPA preferred
- 5+ years of related work experience in public accounting or a public company corporate accounting department
