About the role
This Senior Accounting Manager position is open due to the current incumbent moving into a full-time role within the company, creating an immediate need for an experienced leader who can step in and make an impact. This is a contract engagement of at least six months, with strong potential for extension or conversion to a permanent role.
Responsibilities
- Review business transactions to ensure they are appropriately reflected in the general ledger.
- Research, develop, and implement accounting procedures and processes in compliance with GAAP requirements.
- Advise employees on GAAP requirements and provide necessary guidance.
- Prepare and present analytical evaluations over account fluctuations monthly and annually.
- Evaluate new disclosure requirements for annual financial reports.
- Review journal entries, reconciliations, overhead analyses, and AP corrections prepared by the team.
- Ensure timely and accurate deliverables for year-end financial statement audits.
- Manage the financial reporting team's involvement in system testing for patches and upgrades.
- Supervise staff, ensuring adequate coverage for critical tasks, provide training, and conduct annual performance reviews.
- Respond to accountants' inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
- Serve as a technical advisor, offering Senior-level guidance on various issues.
- Prepare ad hoc reports for Accounting or Division Executive Management.
- Interpret and establish organizational policies, procedures, and strategic goals.
- Support and assist in developing the Department business plan.
- Determine departmental objectives, organize projects, and develop standards and guidelines.
- Attend project meetings as requested.
- Develop and implement departmental tools and workflows to enhance efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance (required).
- Master's degree and/or CPA preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience.
- Background in financial reporting and team management.
- Experience within engineering, construction, or similar industries is highly preferred.
- Prior public accounting experience, ideally Big 4, strongly preferred.
- Expertise in financial reporting, accounting, and financial statement preparation.
- Proficiency in month-end processes and reconciliation.
- Strong knowledge of the general ledger and GAAP.
- Public accounting and audit experience.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
Pay
Target pay rate of $70–$90/hour, depending on experience.
