Senior Accounting Assistant
About The Opportunity
The Department of Community Corrections is currently searching for a Senior Accounting Assistant. The Senior Accounting Assistant serves as a key member of the Administrative Division. This position supports the financial backbone of the division by managing detailed accounting tasks, payroll, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring the smooth flow of fiscal operations.
Responsibilities
- Maintain detailed financial records, ledgers, and accounts with a high level of accuracy.
- Prepare, review, and reconcile journal entries.
- Interpret and apply accounting procedures, regulations, and internal controls.
- Organize and manage time effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with staff, partner agencies, and vendors.
- Provide responsive and helpful customer service.
- Collaborate with colleagues to share knowledge and provide guidance.
Requirements
- Possession of an Associate Degree in accounting, business, or related field AND two (2) or more years of work experience related to accounting, bookkeeping, or fiscal management;
- Accounting Certificate (12 months) AND three (3) or more years of work experience related to accounting, bookkeeping, or fiscal management;
- Five (5) or more years of work experience related to accounting, bookkeeping, or fiscal management.
Qualifications
- Must pass a criminal background check post-offer.
Skills
- Experience maintaining detailed financial records, ledgers, and accounts with a high level of accuracy.
- Skill in preparing, reviewing, and reconciling journal entries.
- Ability to interpret and apply accounting procedures, regulations, and internal controls.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, especially in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Clear, professional communication skills for interacting with staff, partner agencies, and vendors.
- Commitment to providing responsive, helpful customer service.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a cohesive, supportive team.
- Willingness to share knowledge and provide guidance to other staff when needed.
