Senior Accountant, Related Midwest

About the role
The Senior Accountant will work in the development accounting area of the Chicago office, handling all accounting activities for assigned projects. This position involves mentoring junior personnel, interfacing with internal teams (construction, development, finance, tax, legal) and external contacts, and producing high-quality reports for consolidated reporting, financial analysis, and forecasting. The role reports to the Accounting Manager and is a full-time, onsite position at the Related Midwest office.
Responsibilities
- Review and/or prepare applications for payment from the general contractor (G702/703) and/or owner’s perspective.
- Oversee Textura processing for all contracts, designers, and vendors associated with assigned projects.
- Support e-Builder functionality and reconcile project costs to the general ledger monthly.
- Facilitate timely and accurate data entry for invoice applications, change orders, and general expenses.
- Coordinate fund disbursements through various title companies.
- Prepare and analyze the general ledger, financial statements, and GAAP-compliant accrual/adjusting journal entries.
- Review and/or prepare monthly work papers and reporting for assigned projects.
- Assist commercial accounting with consolidating financial results for owners.
- Prepare profitability analysis for assigned projects.
- Evaluate financial and operational activities and recommend improvements for efficiency and internal control.
- Participate in business process and technology integration initiatives.
- Participate in annual audits.
- Collaborate with business teams and senior management on operational reporting metrics.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
- Minimum of 5+ years of accounting experience, ideally in real estate development and general contracting.
- Superior organizational skills, detail-oriented, and ability to prioritize and multitask under deadlines.
- Excellent judgment, interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate data and present solutions for business issues.
- Ability to recognize issues and communicate clearly with management.
- Knowledge of JD Edwards, Textura, eBuilder, HFM, Hubble, or other property management software is a plus.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel.
Pay
Anticipated base salary range: $80,000 – $110,000. Actual base salary will be determined by experience, skills, qualifications, and market factors. In addition to base salary, the role is eligible for discretionary bonus incentives and a comprehensive benefits package.
