Senior Accountant (Contract)

About the role

Makeready is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the financial operations of our growing collection of hotels, restaurants, retail, and home office functions. This is a temporary contract position.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with company policies and accounting standards
• Support the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and ensure outstanding items are researched and resolved timely
• Review general ledger activity for accuracy, completeness, and proper classification
• Aid in the preparation of monthly financial statements and internal reporting packages
• Analyze financial results, identify trends, and explain variances to budget, forecast, and prior periods
• Maintain accurate records and supporting documentation for all assigned accounts
• Provide accounting support and guidance to property leaders as needed
• Aid in the preparation of intercompany transactions, allocations, and reconciliations
• Support cash management processes, including bank reconciliations and cash reporting
• Aid in reviewing property-level accounting activity to ensure compliance with Makeready standards
• Aid in audit preparation, including gathering documentation and responding to audit requests
• Maintain confidentiality of financial information and company records
• Support tax, licensing, and regulatory reporting needs as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
• 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience preferred
• Hospitality, hotel, restaurant, real estate, or multi-unit accounting experience strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting
• Experience with accounting systems and financial reporting tools required
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office products
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with both finance and operational leaders
• Self-motivated, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment
• Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; BI tool experience a plus (ProfitSword, Vena, PMS, POS, Sales systems)
