About the role
The Senior Accountant will play a key role in supporting Whisker's accounting and finance functions by ensuring timely, accurate, and reliable financial reporting. Working closely with the Controller and cross-functional business partners, this position will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, preparing account reconciliations and journal entries, supporting and optimizing the month-end close process, and helping ensure a clean balance sheet with no surprises.
Responsibilities
- Prepares and posts journal entries accurately and timely as part of the monthly financial close process.
- Prepares and maintains balance sheet account reconciliations, investigating and resolving reconciling items promptly.
- Assists with the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Performs variance analysis and investigates unusual fluctuations in financial results.
- Prepares schedules and supporting documentation for internal and external financial reporting.
- Supports annual financial statement audits and other audits by preparing audit schedules and responding to auditor requests.
- Assists with maintaining the general ledger and ensuring transactions are recorded in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Assists with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis as needed.
- Identifies opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting efficiency.
- Assists with ERP system improvements and other finance-related projects.
- Maintains compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and applicable regulations.
- Performs other accounting and finance responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
- At least 4 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
- Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting month-end close.
- Strong understanding of balance sheet and income statement relationships.
- Demonstrated experience owning balance sheet reconciliations and resolving accounting issues through to completion.
- Comfortable working in the details while continually looking for opportunities to improve processes.
- Experience working with ERP systems and accounting software.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- High degree of initiative with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and work in the details.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across departments.
- Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Comfortable with office pets (cats and dogs).
What You’ll Bring

- CPA designation or active progress toward obtaining a CPA
- Master's degree in Accounting or related field.
- Public accounting experience.
- Mechanical experience.
- Experience with SAP Business One or similar ERP systems.
