About the role

This position is responsible for the comprehensive accounting functions of specific manufacturing assets with a strong emphasis on inventory control and variance analysis. The Senior Accountant records, reports, analyzes, and communicates financial activity and results.

Responsibilities

  • Own the accounting for a specific manufacturing plant and distribution center, including complete ownership of the P&L, Manufacturing Statement, and Balance Sheet accounts.
  • Partner with the Supervisor-Accounting to execute month-end, quarter-end, and annual close duties, including accruals, product costing, and reviewing financial information to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Prepare and post journal entries and reconcile accounts.
  • Prepare monthly variance analysis and reporting packages for various management teams.
  • Partner with the Supervisor-Accounting in monthly forecasting and annual budget preparation.
  • Prepare analysis for capital expenditures (AFE), including development of payback financial calculations, and ensure accuracy of fixed assets.
  • Assist with periodic verification (count) of fixed assets, ensuring proper execution and timely posting of adjustments; support fixed asset disposals and transfers.
  • Ensure accuracy of inventory; assist with periodic inventory verification, ensuring counts are performed within corporate guidelines and adjustments are timely posted.
  • Perform month-end inventory revaluation procedures, establish slow-moving/obsolete reserves, and handle overall costing of inventory.
  • Investigate month-end count variances and help with root-cause corrective actions; support inventory reporting.
  • Coordinate and support activities across locations and departments.
  • Manage multiple deadlines and respond quickly to management requests.
  • Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to and effectiveness of internal controls in your area of responsibility; facilitate internal and external audit needs.
  • Research and apply technical US GAAP requirements.
  • Perform other ad-hoc duties and analysis as assigned by the Supervisor-Accounting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting with four to five years of related experience.
  • Two plus years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting is preferred.
  • CPA, CMA, or Master’s degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of cost accounting principles, financial statement preparation, and analysis is required.
  • Cost accounting experience is preferred.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment working with A/P, General Accounting, Payroll, Inventories, Fixed Assets, Cash Accounting, Financial Analysis & Reporting, and multi-plant budgeting is also preferred.
  • Knowledge of JDE system is required; BPC consolidation accounting system is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to present to management and communicate results across multiple levels within the organization.
  • Thorough attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to multi-task, meet tight deadlines, and perform self-review of work product for quality in a dynamic environment.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit; frequently required to walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to stand, talk, or hear.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Flexibility in hours to meet deadlines.
  • Moderate noise level in the work environment, typically based in an office.
  • Some work may be required in operating units, which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.
  • May result in exposure to outside elements and require usage of stairs and elevators.
  • Travel up to 10%, including air or auto travel.
