This position is open to applicants located in the Washington DC area as well as Wichita, Kansas.
About the Role
The Senior Accountant will lead the organization’s most complex accounting areas, ensuring accurate technical accounting treatment for leases, equity and other investments, revenue recognition, and other complex transactions and agreements.
Responsibilities
- Interpret and apply US GAAP and ASC guidance, including new accounting standards.
- Draft technical accounting memos, maintain accounting policies, and ensure compliance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess accounting implications of new initiatives and contracts.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and monthly financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to increase team effectiveness.
- Perform monthly closing responsibilities, including preparing journal entries for review.
- Work with accounting management and external auditors to ensure an efficient annual audit process.
- Research and interpret data to answer accounting and financial questions.
- Develop and implement accounting procedures by analyzing current processes and recommending changes.
- Communicate intricate accounting processes clearly to non-accounting stakeholders.
Requirements
- 3-5+ years of accounting experience, including experience reviewing the work of others.
- Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs.
- Highly entrepreneurial and detail-oriented.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
- Experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations (standout candidate).
- Familiarity with data visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau (standout candidate).
- Proficiency in financial systems such as Sage Intacct, Concur, Blackline, and advanced Excel (standout candidate).
- Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to problem-solving (standout candidate).
Pay
The anticipated base salary range is $100,000–$120,000 per year. This role may also be eligible for additional bonus compensation aligned with an employee’s overall contribution to the organization.
