Senior Accountant

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join a healthcare-focused nonprofit organization located in the Greater Philadelphia Region. This contract opportunity has the potential to become permanent.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the annual budgeting cycle by gathering financial information, organizing supporting documentation, and assisting with requests related to external audits.
  • Prepare and interpret financial analyses that highlight operating patterns, spending variances, and cost trends, then communicate practical recommendations based on the results.
  • Evaluate accounting controls and finance procedures on an ongoing basis to support compliance expectations and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • Oversee recurring grant billing activities, including monthly and quarterly invoicing, while maintaining accurate records tied to funding requirements.
  • Develop and maintain payroll allocation schedules and complete related accounting entries to support accurate expense distribution in the general ledger.
  • Reconcile supply and payroll-related expenditures to ensure transactions are properly recorded and aligned with grant and organizational reporting needs.
  • Partner with accounting leadership to support federal grant billing processes and assist with year-end financial reporting activities.
  • Work closely with accounts payable, payroll, and program teams to ensure receivables, staffing expenses, and grant charges are assigned correctly across funding sources.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in nonprofit accounting, preferably within healthcare, hospital, or social assistance environments.
  • Strong knowledge of government grant accounting, grant compliance, and grant management practices.
  • Hands-on background in transactional accounting, including reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger support.
  • Ability to prepare financial reports, analyze variances, and explain findings clearly to stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting budgeting processes, audit preparation, and year-end reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency working cross-functionally with accounting, payroll, and operational teams in a deadline-driven setting.
  • Solid understanding of financial controls and the ability to identify process improvement opportunities.
