About the role
The Senior Accountant ensures that transactions and consolidations are properly reflected in the Company’s General Ledger on a timely basis in accordance with GAAP. The role also ensures that SOX controls and reporting requirements for a public company are properly executed.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, document, and review General Ledger journal entries during the month-end close.
- Conduct monthly review of financial results and variance analysis compared to goals, prior year, year-end, and prior quarter.
- Develop and maintain account analysis and reconciliation processes, ensuring compliance with GAAP and adequate documentation for manager/supervisor review.
- Perform monthly balance sheet reviews for assigned areas, including variance analysis to last year and current-year budget, and resolve outstanding issues.
- Prepare schedules and reports in support of annual and interim audits.
- Reconcile payments of premiums and reimbursement of claims to third-party benefit administrators.
- Develop accounting procedures for new processes to ensure adequate reporting and control consistent with corporate guidelines and GAAP, and communicate finalized processes to appropriate users and business partners.
- Prepare presentations, including period-end financial reviews.
- Address ad-hoc analysis requests from finance and other functional client groups.
- Assess financial and accounting issues related to new business and strategies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business with an emphasis in Accounting (preferred).
- At least 4 years of relevant accounting and/or reporting experience, with at least 2 years of month-end close experience.
- Experience with medium to large-size companies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced Excel skills, including analytical and complex spreadsheet capabilities.
- Working knowledge of a medium or large-scale ERP accounting system; SAP and/or Blackline experience preferred.
- Ability to drive process improvement.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet strict deadlines.
