About the role

The Senior Accountant plays a crucial role in managing financial operations for affordable housing projects. This includes preparing financial reports, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and supporting budgeting processes.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements for affordable housing projects.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to affordable housing finance.
  • Support budget preparation and monitoring for ongoing projects.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and analysis.
  • Perform variance analysis and provide recommendations for cost control measures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in the affordable housing sector.
  • CPA certification is preferred but not required.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Qualifications

  • Experience with financial management systems and software.
  • Knowledge of HUD guidelines and regulations.
  • Understanding of non-profit accounting principles.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.

Skills

  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data validation.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and non-profit accounting standards.
  • Experience with budgeting and forecasting tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
