Senior Academic Research Scientist - School of Medicine, Pharmacology

About the role

The Senior Academic Research Scientist is recognized as an authority in the scientific field both inside and outside of Emory University. This role requires significant achievements in leadership and recognition in support of Emory research, translational science, or original scientific research, along with a demonstrated ability to manage major components of the Emory scientific mission.

Responsibilities

• Design experiments, perform chemical synthesis, analyze and interpret data, and communicate results of basic and/or translational research.
• Collaborate with Contract Research Organizations (CROs) on GMP synthesis, API stability, safety margin tests for CVF/RPF, salts screening, and formulation tests necessary for advancing compounds to Phase 1.
• Work with CROs to conduct GLP toxicology studies to prepare candidates for IND filing.
• Monitor quality control and recommend new processes or equipment to improve laboratory operations.
• Assist in grant and other funding applications as necessary and appropriate, with significant authorship on publications.
• With approval from the responsible Emory faculty director, may serve as the principal investigator on funded (grant) proposals.
• May have supervisory responsibilities.
• Perform other responsibilities as required.

Requirements

• PhD and 10 years of professional-level experience in a technical or research lab, or
• Master’s degree and 12 years of professional-level experience in a technical or research lab, or
• Bachelor’s degree and 15 years of professional-level experience in a technical or research lab.
• Laboratory experience must align with the area of assignment.
• Internship experience or experience prior to attaining the qualifying degree does not count toward eligible work experience for this role.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the biotech industry.

Schedule

This position generally requires in-person work at an Emory University location. Remote work-from-home options may be granted at the department’s discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to the employee.
