About the Role

ASU's Environmental Health and Safety is seeking an experienced Safety Partner to monitor the workplace environment, investigate safety concerns and/or accidents, and support environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs. This position assists in ensuring the health and safety of the university community, with a preference for candidates experienced in the semiconductor industry.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in site visits to audit, provide consultation, and/or conduct inspections of university facilities to ensure compliance with federal, state, local regulations, codes, and university requirements.
  • Develops, implements, and manages semiconductor safety programs, including chemical & gas safety, equipment safety, control of hazardous energy, confined space, aerial lifts, fall protection, and hearing conservation.
  • Consults with faculty, staff, students, industry tenants, and others to provide technical and problem-solving assistance and answer questions related to safety.
  • Identifies hazards, assesses risk, and provides options to eliminate or minimize hazards/risks.
  • Maintains inventory and storage management systems for hazardous materials.
  • Participates in project teams conducting special studies and recommends solutions or alternatives.
  • Interprets EHS data and regulatory standards.
  • Prepares data and drafts reports required for tracking, decision-making, and/or to satisfy compliance requirements.
  • May serve as the primary MTW EHS contact for an ASU Lab or an industry tenant, overseeing safety-related matters.
  • Attends weekly business unit or industry tenant meetings and provides input on safety-related matters.
  • Participates in the MTW on-call rotation and response for after-hours incidents.
  • Assists with reviewing, interpreting, and evaluating compliance activities and policies supporting safety and environmental compliance programs, and implements changes to address deficiencies or improvements.
  • Participates in respiratory protection programs, including respiratory fit testing and training.
  • Participates in ASU medical surveillance programs, which may include vaccinations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
  • Experience supporting environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs, with semiconductor industry experience preferred.

Desired Qualifications

  • Certifications or the desire to become certified: Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST), Safety Trained Supervisor (STS), Certified Instructional Trainer (CIT), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar certifications.
  • Experience leading or contributing to safety initiatives that improved efficiency or reduced risk.
  • Effective communication skills with experience providing safety guidance, training, and mentoring lab personnel in compliance with environmental health and safety regulations.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
  • Semiconductor and Environmental Health and Safety experience is highly desired.

Working Environment

  • 30% of activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting, subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.
  • This position may require driving. Employee must possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.

Pay

$90,000 - $99,400 per year, DOE.
