About the Role
The Security Technician is responsible for installing project-specific devices to the standards of all fire alarm, building, and electrical codes. This role also involves mentoring, training, and coaching entry-level technicians on job sites.
Responsibilities
- Install project-specific cabling or piping per specifications and applicable building, electrical, and fire alarm codes.
- Install project-specific devices including Fire, Suppression, CCTV, Intrusion, Access, Nurse Call, etc., adhering to specifications and codes.
- Use computers, laptops, and specialized interface/programming software to set up and program security, access, CCTV, nurse call, or sound systems.
- Coordinate with assigned project managers and other trades to complete projects and work orders efficiently and on time.
- Monitor the installation work of outside contractors to ensure projects meet state and local codes, regulations, and project specifics.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose system problems or failures, identifying equipment or systems requiring repair.
- Perform regular system inspections, evaluating conditions, identifying necessary repairs, and recommending preventative maintenance.
- Analyze blueprints and drawings for accurate installation.
- Mentor, coach, and train entry-level technicians.
- Run EMT and PVC conduit and "fish" walls for basic applications.
- Maintain assigned tools, vehicle, and equipment while following company-mandated safety policies.
- Communicate verbally and in writing with team members and customers.
- Work off lifts of all sizes and heights; obtain and maintain lift certification.
- Use company software for service tickets, time logging, and job-specific information.
- Obtain and maintain necessary licenses, certifications, and manufacturer-specific training.
- Attend job-specific and manufacturer-specified training programs.
- Work after normal business hours and weekends as required.
- Periodically travel outside the normal service area when necessary.
- Demonstrate integrity, honesty, and excellent people and organizational skills.
Requirements
- High school diploma.
- 3-5 years of experience as an entry-level technician or in a related industry.
- OSHA-10 hour certification.
- Efficiency and productivity in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in navigating company software, data entry, and communication; knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is a plus.
- Excellent customer service skills for both internal and external customers.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools, unload, carry, and climb ladders.
- Maintain First Aid, CPR, lift, confined space, and other required safety certifications.
- Must pass a background check and maintain a clean driving record (no DUIs or serious violations within the past three years).
- Subject to random drug testing per the company’s Drug-Free Safety Policy.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, crawl, and climb ladders (both caged and uncaged), stairs, and other equipment.
- Required to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Maximum unassisted lift of 75 lbs.
- Ability to safely drive a company-owned or personal vehicle for business purposes.
