About the Role
The Security Technician installs project-specific devices in compliance with fire alarm, building, and electrical codes. This role also involves mentoring, training, and coaching entry-level technicians on job sites.
Responsibilities
- Install project-specific cabling, piping, and devices (e.g., Fire, Suppression, CCTV, Intrusion, Access, Nurse Call) per specifications and applicable codes.
- Program and set up security, access, CCTV, nurse call, or sound systems using specialized software and manufacturer certifications.
- Coordinate with project managers and other trades to complete projects and work orders efficiently and on time.
- Monitor the installation work of outside contractors to ensure compliance with state/local codes and project specifics.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose system problems, identifying equipment or systems requiring repair.
- Perform regular system inspections, evaluate conditions, and recommend preventative maintenance.
- Analyze blueprints and drawings for installation guidance.
- Run EMT and PVC conduit, and "fish" walls for basic applications.
- Mentor, coach, and train entry-level technicians.
- Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment while adhering to company safety policies.
- Communicate verbally and in writing with team members and customers.
- Work off lifts of varying sizes and heights (lift certification required).
- Use company software for service tickets, time logging, and job-specific information.
- Obtain and maintain necessary licenses, certifications, and training (e.g., OSHA-10, First Aid/CPR, lift certification).
- Work after normal business hours, weekends, and travel outside the normal service area as needed.
- Demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and strong organizational and people skills.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3–5 years of experience as an entry-level technician or in a related industry.
- OSHA-10 hour certification.
- Ability to navigate company software, enter data, and communicate effectively.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel (preferred).
- Excellent customer service skills for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools, unload equipment, and climb ladders.
- Maintain First Aid/CPR, lift, confined space, and other safety certifications.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, crawl, and climb ladders (caged and uncaged), stairs, and other equipment.
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Maximum unassisted lift of 75 lbs.
- Work off lifts of varying heights.
Must pass a background check, maintain a clean driving record (no DUIs or serious violations in the past three years), and comply with random drug testing per the company’s Drug-Free Safety Policy.
