Security System Installation Technician
About the role
Johnson Controls is seeking a motivated Fire Alarm / Low Voltage Technician to support school renovation, fire alarm installation, and service projects throughout the Savannah area (including Beaufort, Hilton Head, Brunswick, Statesboro areas). This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently, solving problems in the field, and taking ownership of projects from start to finish. The right candidate will have experience with low voltage systems and construction environments, but more importantly will have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to continuously learn and develop their technical skills. This position offers significant opportunities for growth under experienced fire alarm professionals and project leadership.
Responsibilities
- Install, troubleshoot, and support fire alarm and low voltage systems in different industry sectors including warehouses, banks, small to large businesses
- Pull, terminate, and test low voltage cabling while ensuring wire integrity and installation quality
- Read blueprints, drawings, and device layouts to connect and commission systems
- Coordinate with electricians, vendors, subcontractors, and project teams to keep projects moving forward
- Identify field issues and proactively bring solutions rather than roadblocks
- Manage assigned work independently while maintaining communication with supervisors and project managers
- Support multiple renovation and upgrade projects as needed
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company standards
Requirements
- Required experience in low voltage systems, fire alarm systems, security systems, or related electrical work
- Comfortable working on active construction and renovation sites
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to read construction drawings and wiring diagrams
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong communication skills and professional customer-facing attitude
Qualifications
- Preferred fire alarm installation or service experience
- Experience with school, commercial, or institutional projects
- Familiarity with fire alarm panels, devices, and system troubleshooting
- Exposure to security, access control, CCTV, or integrated building systems
- Leadership experience or desire to grow into a lead technician role

Additional Skills & Qualifications
Primary systems worked on are Edwards, Simplex, Firelite, Vista, Alarm.com, and Ccure. NICET certification is a plus but not required.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $22.00 – $33.00/hr. Individual compensation offered within this range will depend on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
