About the role
The Arctic and Homeland Defense Center (AHDC) UARC at the Geophysical Institute is seeking a Security Specialist to provide security support to the center.
Responsibilities
- Ensure UARC compliance with Department of Defense (DoD), Intelligence Community (IC), and Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) requirements.
- Coordinate with UA FSO to conduct security briefings, debriefings, and training for cleared staff and visitors.
- Maintain facility clearances, personnel clearances, and visit authorizations.
- Develop, maintain, and enforce security policies, SOPs, and best practices for classified and unclassified programs within the UARC.
Requirements
- Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in related field and five years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must possess (or be able to obtain and maintain) an active DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Completion of DCSA or equivalent security training programs preferred.
- Prior experience as a Contractor Security Manager, Government Security Manager, or Military Security Specialist preferred.
- Prior experience as a Special Security Officer (SSO) with responsibility for SCIF management preferred.
Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of government and industrial security best practices (NISPOM, DoDM 5205.07, ICDs, etc.).
- Understanding of JPAS/DISS, NISS, and related security systems.
- Working knowledge of industrial security procedures.
- Former experience as a contractor or government security officer with knowledge of SCIF management is a plus.
Skills
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of security policies and procedures.
- Proficiency in using security software and tools.

Pay
This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.
Schedule
This position is full-time, Grade 80, term-funded, exempt, 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.
