SECURITY SPECIALIST.

Responsibilities

• Implement and manage program alarm systems for multiple Ocean Engineering spaces and buildings; respond to alarms, assess required responses, and troubleshoot system issues.
• Implement security inspection programs for assigned Ocean Engineering projects to meet requirements established by various Department of the Navy (DON) and national commands.
• Establish inspection schedules, review inspection findings, and determine procedural changes in conjunction with Ocean Engineering management and facilities.
• Manage and audit classified material for the Ocean Engineering program and sub-custodians.
• Manage security programs for safes, including combinations, combination change requirements, inventory control, and safe access lists for the Ocean Engineering program.
• Manage the infrastructure and security for information technology systems, software, and accounts.

Requirements

• Must be a US Citizen.
• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
• New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level (time-in-grade requirement).
• Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to specific provisions.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
• This is a bargaining unit position.
• Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty; failure to do so may result in withdrawal of job offer or removal.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required; random testing will occur thereafter.
• Must wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes continuously during work shifts.
• May require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS locations, including remote or isolated sites; must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods.
• Subject to a Counter-Intelligence Scope Polygraph (CSP) prior to hiring and randomly thereafter, not to exceed five years per Department of Defense Instruction Number 5210.91.
• Will complete a background investigation reviewing personal information, past employment, family, finances, complete medical history (including psychological issues), and foreign travel.

Qualifications

GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must include developing and planning security programs by interpreting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with established security regulations and implementing security plans involving classified and controlled unclassified information and materials.

GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must include planning security programs by reviewing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with established security regulations, recommending security plans, and implementing proper conformance involving classified and controlled unclassified information and materials.

This position is subject to an initial drug screening and random testing thereafter. A negative drug test result must be received by HR within 30 calendar days after the start date. Failure to pass or refusal to conduct the test may result in withdrawal of the job offer or removal from Federal service.
