Security Screening Officer - Salt Lake Temple Celebration

About the Role

This position provides safety and protection across Church facilities through professional screening procedures, identification of prohibited items, and courteous, Christlike service. Security Screening Officers will become proficient in operating metal detector technology, organize, train, and oversee volunteer staff assigned to screening entry points, and be part of the historic Salt Lake Temple Celebration and Dedication.

Responsibilities

• Support safe and efficient screening operations for participants and attendees.
• Operate screening equipment and assist with identifying prohibited or dangerous items.
• Conduct bag searches, physical screening, and entry point inspections as assigned.
• Train and support volunteer screeners assigned to entry points.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Able to pass a background check and meet Church worthiness and employment standards; must have a current temple recommend (a limited-use recommend meets the requirement).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Dependable, adaptable, detail-oriented, and able to follow procedures carefully.
• Available to work early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• At least 18 years old.
• Two years in a leadership role.

Physical Expectations

• Successfully complete a basic physical readiness assessment, including a one-mile walk, stair climb, and lift-and-carry exercise.
• Stand and walk for prolonged periods.
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
• Bend, kneel, squat, and perform repetitive screening movements as needed.

Pay

$27 an hour.

Benefits

• Full benefits coverage.
• $3,000 Completion Incentive upon successful completion of the employment period (November 2026 – November 2027).

Schedule

Full-time, November 2026 – November 2027. Must be available to work early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
