Security Screener

About the role

The Security Screener provides security screening to prevent the introduction of weapons, explosives, and other deadly or dangerous items into the air transportation system using available screening equipment such as hand-held metal detectors and physical inspections. This role ensures the security of aircraft, airports, air carriers, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Familiarity with all Government, Airport, Client, and Company regulations.
• Courteous and effective communication with fellow employees.
• Active participation in the Safety Management System (SMS).
• Communication of safety hazards and equipment problems to managers.
• Conduct physical searches and take proper action upon detection of questionable or dangerous items.
• Notify or ensure immediate Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) and/or Airline Ground Security Coordinator notification when necessary.
• Ensure safe handling of dangerous or deadly weapons/objects until LEO arrival.
• Contact LEO if items of contraband are discovered during screening.
• Maintain control of items until LEO arrival.
• Report all Government tests, real weapons, injuries, and other major incidents to supervisor immediately.
• Keep supervisor informed of needs and problems in assigned areas.
• Maintain cleanliness of immediate work area and report maintenance needs.
• Attend meetings and in-services as required.
• Utilize appropriate communications channels and maintain records, reports, and files as required.
• Utilize company and client equipment, supplies, and resources conscientiously and cost-effectively.
• Perform other duties as requested.

Requirements

• High School diploma/G.E.D. or equivalent.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Previous experience in security, military, or customer service.
• Reliable telephone and transportation.
• Previous airline experience preferred.
• Ability to read, write, understand, and carry out instructions in English.
• Ability to read identification badges, credentials, and labels on bottles, aerosol cans, and packages.
• Ability to open and close latches, zippers, and screw caps; remove and feel beneath baggage contents; and reach all sides of a bag.
• Ability to hear and respond to spoken voice and audible alarms with background noise.
• Manual dexterity to operate hand-held metal detectors and search various shaped items and packages.
• Ability to take verbal direction in English.
• Ability to sit, stand, lift up to 75 lbs., and/or bend throughout the shift.
• Must pass pre-employment and random drug tests.
• Must pass a pre-employment background check.
• Must meet requirements to obtain a security-sensitive identification badge.
• Must be in proper uniform or business attire as directed by company officials.
• Identification badges must always be visible.
• Adhere to company policies and procedures and participate in achievement of company objectives.
• Project a positive image and respond to inquiries from clients, staff, and the public courteously.
• Treat all information as confidential.
