Duties And Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in and implements the security management program
  • Maintains and wears complete and neat uniform per department dress code
  • Monitors hospital CCTV system, alarm systems, and communication equipment, dispatching staff as needed
  • Implements hospital access control procedures at all hospital entrances
  • Responds to emergency calls, making initial assessments of situations using tact, diplomacy, and judgment
  • Resolves violent and potentially violent situations
  • Intervenes with individuals attempting to impose physical harm to themselves or who are posing a threat to others or to hospital property
  • Provides security and protection to Hospital patients, visitors, employees and customers by patrolling areas
  • Completes necessary departmental forms, reports, and logs in a timely and detailed manner
  • Enforces the laws of the State of California and the policies and procedures of the Hospital
  • Greets all customers, offering assistance as needed
  • Observes and reports faulty and/or unsafe equipment, including fire and safety related items
  • Carries out safety and infection control procedures to ensure customer and employee safety
  • Supports and participates in the Hospital's performance improvement process

Non-Essential Duties

  • Fuels security vehicles, checks fluids levels as needed, and conduct a preliminary safety inspection of vehicle before each use
  • Keeps locker room, SecOps and personal locker clean
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of safety & security
  • Basic knowledge of security monitoring
  • Basic reporting skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Develops writing skills required for compiling detailed reports
  • Speaks and communicates with customers clearly and effectively
  • Uses basic computer applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Meets the core competencies developed for all employees of the hospital

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • 6 months Security related experience preferred

Licensure and/or Certifications

  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license
  • Current California Guard Card
  • Valid First Aid and/or CPR card maintained at all times
  • CHISO designation from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 90 days of hire
  • CAHSO designation from IAHSS within 180 days of hire
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention 8- hour course from the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) within 90 days of hire and recertification annually
  • Health Stream coursework, within 60 days of hire, on: Workplace Violence, National Incident Management System (NIMS), Emergency Management

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Work performed in a combination of the interior of a hospital building and outdoors under potentially stressful and emotional conditions
  • Stand or walk or sit or a combination thereof for 8 hours
  • Able to lift 50 lbs
  • Able to move vigorously as needed
  • Able to grip with both hands
  • Able to bend and reach without limitations
