Security Officer II

About the role

This position involves providing assistance and information to all patients, visitors, and staff. It also includes enforcing WVU Medicine policies and procedures to maintain a safe and secure environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintains consistent visibility and presence at assigned locations to provide information and directional resources.
• Responds to all patient, visitor, and staff requests for information/assistance in a caring, courteous manner.
• Provides physical assistance, wheelchair assistance, transport services, escort services, and room access.
• Makes recommendations to management, staff, visitors, and patients to improve security and prevent accidents and crime.
• Reports suspicious situations, incidents, and persons according to system and department policy and procedures.
• Responds and provides assistance to patients, visitors, and staff during fire and disaster drills, animal control issues, transportation of valuables, and lost/found issues.
• Performs patient restraint as directed by clinical staff and is capable of physical intervention when appropriate.
• Operates Hospital-owned vehicles in a safe and responsible manner.
• Ensures safety and proper operating condition of vehicles by performing vehicle inspections.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent AND one (1) year of experience in security field OR Associate’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, forensics, law or related field of study.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Obtain certification in BLS or HeartSaver First Aid within 60 days of hire date.
• State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, forensics, law, or related field of study.
• One (1) year of experience in security field.

• Ability to perform effectively under often stressful situations.
• Good decision making and organizational skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to train Security Officers.
