About the role

As a member of the Bayhealth Public Safety team, this incumbent is responsible for ensuring the security, safety, and well-being of all Bayhealth properties and individuals within. Reporting to a Public Safety Supervisor, the Security Officer is responsible for ensuring a secure environment for employees, patients, and visitors at Bayhealth by providing service of the highest quality, which optimizes our patient’s healthcare experience. This position may require long periods of walking, standing, or sitting. The Security Officer may be required to man the Public Safety Control Desk at times.

Department team members are authorized to have limited access to secured medication rooms to perform duties and responsibilities as defined in this job description. Any staff member requiring limited access to secured medication rooms must have a fully completed and signed Medication Security Agreement for Non-Licensed Personnel form on file and available upon request.

Responsibilities

• Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, and safety standards.
• Works to build a cooperative and proactive department using current law enforcement, security, and crime prevention techniques and technology.
• Builds and maintains relationships with hospital staff and local emergency responders.
• Patrols medical center buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intruders.
• Secures and unlocks facilities.
• Monitors conduct of visitors on medical center premises; confronts unauthorized persons for questioning as needed.
• Responds to, intervenes in, and documents safety and security incidents.
• Escorts personnel to parking lots and medical center buildings.
• Responds to inquiries for advice or assistance from medical center personnel, students, and visitors.
• Controls parking and traffic flow; enforces parking regulations.
• Responds to all calls assigned and intervenes appropriately, which may include acts of disorderly conduct or violence.
• Administers patient restraints when authorization is provided by an approved medical practitioner.
• Maintains records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.
• Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
• Provides services consistent with the organization’s philosophy of delivering compassionate, competent care while assuming personal responsibility for promoting wellness, respecting diversity, and maintaining confidentiality.
• Must be able to work all shifts and respond to Bayhealth during times of emergency when called. Overtime may be required to ensure minimum staffing levels.
• Must successfully complete all required departmental training programs within required time frames, including but not limited to: Handcuffing Certification, Oleoresin Capsicum Certification, NAPPI De-Escalation Training, and IAHSS Certifications.
• All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Current class D driver’s license with no more than 2 moving violations or accidents in the past 3 years (due to insurance carrier requirements).
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Basic Life Support certification (within 90 days if not already obtained).
• CHSO-Basic certification (within 6 months of hire if not already obtained).

Preferred: 1 year experience in law enforcement or security is desirable. Hospital experience is desirable.

Pay

Salary range: $18.27 - $27.40 hourly.

Schedule

• Full Time (80 Hours).
• Evenings shift.

Location: Kent Campus Hospital.
