Security Officer

About the Role

The Security Officer reports to the Medical Center Security Manager. Under general supervision, the Security Officer monitors and provides protection and security for facilities, premises, employees, patients, and visitors. Work involves shift work and some overtime.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and repetitive security duties following clearly prescribed standards and practices.
• Communicate tactfully and clearly with the general public.
• Monitor and secure buildings and grounds using established security methods.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent; a Bachelor’s degree or relevant certifications may substitute for required work experience.
• One year of relevant experience in Security, Law Enforcement, Fire Service, Emergency Medical Service, Behavioral Health, Counseling, Education, or Military.
• Must obtain and maintain the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) certification within the first year of employment.
• Valid South Carolina Driver’s License.

• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted (infrequent).
• Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted (infrequent).
• Ability to lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. (infrequent).
• Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force (frequent).
• Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one or both eyes (continuous).
• Ability to see and recognize objects at close range or distance, match or discriminate between colors, and determine depth perception (continuous).
• Good peripheral vision capabilities (continuous).
• Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction (continuous).
• Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements (continuous).
• Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations (continuous).
• Ability to work rotating shifts (frequent) and overtime as required (frequent).
• Ability to work in a latex-safe environment (continuous).
• Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions (continuous).
• Selected positions: Ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function (continuous).
• Selected positions: Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required (continuous).

Pay

Hourly pay grade: Health-21.

Schedule

Scheduled weekly hours: 40. Work shift varies; ability to work rotating shifts and overtime as required.
