Security Officer

About the Role

The Security Officer reports to the Director of Security and provides protection and security for facilities, premises, employees, patients, and visitors. This position responds to security calls within the medical center, conducts basic investigations, and troubleshoots the electronic visitor management system. The role involves physical patrols of the medical center and parking lot, shift work, and occasional overtime.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and protect facilities, premises, employees, patients, and visitors.
• Respond to security calls within the medical center.
• Conduct basic investigations.
• Troubleshoot the electronic visitor management system.
• Patrol the perimeter of the medical center and parking lot.
• Communicate tactfully with the public.
• Work rotating shifts and overtime as required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma (Bachelor’s degree or relevant certifications may substitute for required work experience).
• Must obtain and maintain the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety certification (IAHSS) within the first year of employment.
• Valid South Carolina Driver’s License.
• One year of relevant experience in Security, Law Enforcement, Fire Service, Emergency Medical Service, Behavioral Health, Counseling, Education, or Military.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, and walking (Continuous – 6-8 hours per shift).
• Ability to climb stairs (Infrequent – 0-2 hours per shift).
• Ability to work indoors (Continuous) and outside in temperature extremes (Infrequent).
• Ability to work from elevated areas (Frequent – 2-6 hours per shift).
• Ability to work in confined/cramped spaces (Frequent).
• Ability to perform job functions from kneeling positions (Infrequent).
• Ability to bend at the waist (Continuous), twist at the waist (Frequent), and squat (Frequent).
• Ability to perform “pinching” operations (Frequent) and gross/fine motor activities with fingers and hands (Continuous).
• Ability to reach overhead (Frequent) and in all directions (Continuous).
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted (Infrequent).
• Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted (Infrequent).
• Ability to lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs. (Infrequent).
• Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force (Frequent). Examples include:
  • Transferring a 100 lb. patient that cannot assist requires 50 lbs. of force (assistance required for every additional 100 lbs.).
  • 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet.
  • 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient using one hand.
• Ability to maintain vision 20/40 corrected (Continuous).
• Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance, match/discriminate between colors, determine depth perception, and maintain good peripheral vision (Continuous).
• Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction (Continuous).
• Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements (Continuous).
• Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations (Continuous).
• Ability to work in a latex-safe environment (Continuous).
• Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions (Continuous).
• Selected positions may require maintaining olfactory sensory function (Continuous) or physical qualification for respirator use (Continuous).

Pay

Hourly pay rate, Pay Grade Health-21.

Schedule

PRN (as needed) position with a scheduled weekly average of 40 hours. Work shift is primarily day shift (United States of America).
